The Communist Manifesto, originally also called the Manifesto of the Communist Party, is a programmatic text from 1848 by the German philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, in which they developed large parts of the world view later known as "Marxism". Commissioned by the League of Communists and originally published in London when the revolutions of 1848 broke out, the Manifesto was later recognized as one of the most influential political documents in the world. It presents an analytical approach to the class struggle and conflicts of capitalism and the capitalist mode of production, rather than a prediction of possible future forms of communism. The work consists of an introduction and four chapters. It begins with the now dictum: "A spectre is haunting Europe – the spectre of communism" and ends with the well-known call: "Workers of the world, unite!"
